UNIVERSITY OF COLOGNE

The venue for ILAG 2025 will be the building of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in the heart of Cologne’s inner city at Apostelnkloster, straight across from the Romanesque Basilica of the Holy Apostles. The venue is located in Cologne's vibrant pedestrian area and next to Neumarkt, one of the city's main squares and transportation hubs. It is within easy walking distance from the conference hotels.

The building was designed by Rudolf Schickmann and opened as America House in 1955. For more than 50 years, it served as a “window to America”, offering views of the culture, society and politics of the United States and fostering cultural exchange between Germany and the USA. When the America House closed in 2007, it was taken over by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation.

Following its conversion by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the building, which is listed as an architectural monument, offers wide-ranging possibilities to perform its task, the promotion of science and research, in the public domain. With several event rooms, it serves as a centre for scholarly dialogue and a venue for cultural events. In addition to events supported by the Foundation, guest events also take place here.

The Fritz Thyssen Foundation that will host ILAG 2025 was established in 1959 by the Thyssen family, a leading German industrial family, for the purpose of promoting the science and research. It was the first large private individual foundation promoting science and research to be founded in the Federal Republic of Germany after the Second World War.

Panels of the ILAG 2025 conference will mainly take place at the Amélie Thyssen Auditorium on the first floor. Conference rooms are available for break-out sessions, while the library and a patio will provide delegates space for one-on-one talks and a rest. WIFI is available throughout the building.  Please note that no individual power outlets are available in the auditorium, so make sure that your mobile devices are well charged or bring along a power pack.
